As someone who has benefited enormously from a generous and hard work of the online whisk(e)y community, I love the efforts that Zac and LeAnne (the Whiskeysmiths) are making to recognize those tireless contributors. So a big thank you to the Whiskeysmiths for allowing me the opportunity to help promote this worthy endeavour.

Honey, sweet toffee, candied fruit (apple and citrus), malt, and chestnuts. Palate: Thick, rich mouthfeel. Sweet toffee again, right on the arrival. Fresh, sugared, tart red fruits (think red currants), caramelized brown sugar, honey, raisins, baking […]

Lovely spot, and definitely a wonderful tour experience, but I’m not sure that the Distiller’s Edition itself is at the same level.
Read More Whisky Musings #7 – Cragganmore Distiller’s Edition (12 Year Old)We’re going to take a short detour away from whisky to talk about one of the great, unique, international beers: Rodenbach Vintage. It’s an aged beer that demonstrates a lot of the fruit, tannic qualities of red wine, but with a slight sourness typical of Flanders red ale. Fantastic stuff, but don’t worry, the whisky […]

Benromach 10 (Speyside) – 43% ABV – $59.15 (LCBO) Colour: Chestnut Nose: Earthy: Toasted almonds, tobacco, fresh leather. Hints of raisin, cinnamon spice and smoke. Palate: Earthy notes still pervade. Almonds and shoe leather on the approach, […]
Read More Whisky Musings #6 – Benromach 10Examples of various shades of scotch whisky without caramel colour There are few practices in the whisky world that are met with with more derision and ire than the addition of caramel colour (e150a), and chill filtration. Many whisky bottlings now proudly display “natural colour” or “non-chill filtered” on the labels. This begs the questions, […]
